THE LEWIS BONDING MODEL AND BEYOND

报告摘要:The lecture discusses fundamental questions of chemical bonding in the light of the Lewis electron-pair model which was introduced 100 years ago [1]. Topics include the electronic structure of molecules with unusual bonds [2] and the differences of chemical bonding between atoms of the first octal row and heavier homologues [3]. It is shown that the complementary model of electron-sharing bonds A-B and dative bonds A→B is very useful to explain molecular structures and to predict novel compounds [4].
